🌿 Our Story – The Heart Behind Gingeraides
As a little girl growing up in Haiti, the first thing that went into our bellies every morning was a hot cup of tea. Whether we were well or sick, there was always tea sometimes bitter, sometimes earthy, sometimes sweet, and sometimes we just wanted to ask, “What in the world is this” But we didn’t do that back in the days — so we’d just exchange looks with each other instead. Of course, my sisters and I always loved the sweet one, which usually came with a piece of bread spread with butter or peanut butter. And if you’re from the islands, you know dipping the bread is a must — and no, we don’t call it “soggy bread!”
Ginger tea was always our favorite. As we grew into adulthood, ginger stayed our go-to tea for everything — colds, upset stomachs, nausea, or simply to warm up on a chilly day. There was always fresh ginger in the house, ready to brew.
Our children, though, saw ginger tea as the ultimate “forbidden tea.” They would be sick in bed, but the moment we offered them ginger tea — suddenly they’d jump up feeling “better” just to avoid it. They truly thought we were trying to kill them with that fiery ginger brew!
Then came 2020, right in the midst of COVID. My sister and I were prepping fresh ginger to store for easy use when an idea struck: “What if we turned it into a cold drink?” My sister said, “A lemonade?” and I was like, “Yes — but we’re calling it Gingeraide!”
We made a pitcher, put it in the fridge, and didn’t say a word — and it didn’t even last a day. When asked who drank it, everyone had a smile and claimed they only had a little bit, but the whole pitcher was gone. And when asked if they didn’t taste the ginger, they said, “Yes — it was good, nothing like the tea!”
Gingeraides instantly became our daily drink. COVID didn’t stand a chance in some of our homes — and if it did show up, it didn’t stay long.
It didn’t stop with family. One day at work, I brought a bottle to a pharmacist colleague who was feeling under the weather. The next day when I asked how he was doing, he said, “I’m not going to lie — I feel so much better!” That’s when I knew Gingeraides was something special.
What began as our comforting family tradition has grown into something bigger than we ever imagined. We shared it with friends and neighbors, and their happy reactions told us we had created a gift worth sharing.
In 2023, we decided to bottle this goodness and bring it to your table too. Today, Gingeraides is more than just a drink — it’s our way of inspiring a balanced, healthy lifestyle, rooted in island tradition and nature’s powerful ingredients.
